The modern world has only glimpsed the surface of potential for the Aligoté grape. We are in a renaissance of rediscovery. This bottling takes this journey one step further with neutral oak aging to add texture and depth to these very old vines. The wine develops with complex aromas of citrus fruits, peach, and fresh bread. The palate is balanced and full with a finish that is elegant and nuanced.
POINTS OF INTEREST
This is the Doré clone, considered the most complex clone of the Aligoté grape, from very old vines. Boris Champy now runs the Montchovet estate holdings that are certified biodynamic (Demeter) on limestone rich soils at high elevations. Vines planted after the 80s are using the Lyre trellis system but most of the Aligoté is from the original vines as old as 70 years.

This is the signature Chardonnay of the estate that highlights high altitude plantings in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. A classic style with all the freshness of rocky limestone soils with a clean and vibrant nose of citrus and cut flowers, notes of honeycomb and lemon balm. The palate is focused with body and freshness followed by a touch of oak in a layered finish.

Gamay
Gamay was once very popular in Burgundy until it was outlawed in 1395. This is a beautiful and rare opportunity to enjoy classic Gamay in the historic hills above Pommard in Burgundy. This old vine Gamay is full of dark fruits and rocky minerality. The aromas are of violet, blackberry, wet topsoil, and smoked pepper followed by a dense palate with soft dusty tannins, making for a pleasurable finish.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Gamay has found its home south of the Côte de Beaune in Beaujolais. Apparently the Duke of Burgundy feared that it would overtake Pinot Noir in popularity so he outlawed it throughout Burgundy around 1400 AD. Today just a few hundred hectares of Gamay exist in Burgundy and this is one of the finest examples you will find showing great depth from small parcels planted in the 50s.

Pommard is one of the most iconic villages for Pinot Noir in the Cote de Beaune. If you like wines from this village or Pinot's with more darker denser fruit, then this wine will not disappoint. With elegant aromatics of raspberry and black currant, the palate expresses dense but supple tannins that are round and lively, followed by a finish that will develop gracefully over the next 10 years.

To simplify the Pommard region, you have the classified vineyards in the middle of the slope facing east, and you have the village level wines on the bottom and the top of that hill. The expression of Pommard Pinot Noir you get from Champy comes from a single plot of 0.7 hectares on a high, well-ventilated hill. A wine that offers both the power and body associated with this great village, accented with grace and freshness. A crowd pleaser for even the biggest Pommard fan.

Marked by a uniquely western facing slope with more clay and Iron, this high-elevation vineyard expresses a denser expression of Beaune Pinot Noir. Rich aromatics of cherry and liquorice give way to a touch of wood spice followed by a firm mid-palate than expresses darker berry fruit, like black currant, and is defined by a more tannic structure and powerful finish.

This small plot from a southwesterly exposed Premier Cru vineyard highlights more power and structure than its neighboring climats. broken up into two parcels, the total holdings for Champy in this unique site come in at just one hectare. Meticulous biodynamic farming has been in practice here since 1985. Fermentations with nativer yeast capture the purity of these healthy grapes creating a wine that will age for a lifetime in good vintages.
